When we talk about Burnout Syndrome in students, we associate the syndrome with excessive study hours. Excessive fatigue, emotional exhaustion, and the feeling of always being on the edge; are some symptoms of Burnout Syndrome! This is characterized by the production of exhausting emotional or psychological sensations, from the conditions of physical work.
When a student is preparing for a big exam or is in an intense routine of preparing for the entrance exam, he can suffer from those symptoms. People who have burnout syndrome report mental and physical exhaustion, loss of appetite, lack of motivation, discouragement, depression, anxiety, and lack of concentration.
Many students, who are under a lot of pressure for a long time, report these same symptoms and others, such as insomnia, irritability, social isolation, apathy, and low self-esteem.
Unfortunately, Burnout can seriously affect the student’s physical and emotional life, reducing performance in their studies.
How to deal with symptoms and stay away from Burnout Syndrome?
The first step to staying away from the syndrome is learning to manage time and take care of your physical and mental health! Doing regular physical activities (at least 150 minutes a week), taking time for leisure, and practicing relaxing activities are essential to reduce psychological and physical symptoms. Staying away from stimulating foods, high in sugar and with white flour, also helps to improve symptoms.
Learn to know and respect your limits, and have a balanced and healthy study routine. Take breaks, create a cycle between study and rest period, and respect the sleep time needed for your body to recover.
